Singapore’s benchmark stock index hit a record high on Friday, boosted by heavyweight bank and real estate stocks as a broader rally in Asian markets provided support.
The Straits Times index jumped 1% to an intraday record high of 5,807.16 points.
The country’s three largest banks– #OCBC , #UOB , and #DBSBANK – rose between 0.7% and 1.2%, and were a major boost to the index.

#RealestategroupHongKongLand jumped 4.1% and was also a major mover on the STI.
The stock surged after Bloomberg reported that the company, which is one of Singapore and Hong Kong’s biggest landlord– was in talks to enter Japan’s resurgent property market.
Friday’s gains in Singapore came in tandem with a broader rally in Asian markets, as investors cheered an overnight drop in U.S. Treasury yields amid cooling bets that an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve was imminent.
A rally in technology and artificial intelligence stocks also aided local shares.
The Straits Times index is trading up about 25% so far in 2026, aided by optimism over Singapore’s economy. The country’s electronics exports were greatly boosted by overseas AI demand, while its major banks continued to log strong returns from across east Asia.
