Kazakhstan's crypto-mining industry is in distress due to high energy prices, with eight major operators signing an open letter to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The companies, including BCD Company, TT TECH Limited, and KZ Systems, claim that high taxes on energy for miners have caused the country to lose its position among crypto mining leaders like the US, Russia, and China. They warn that if the government doesn't take urgent action, the industry will cease to exist in Kazakhstan. The country introduced taxes on digital mining based on electricity consumption on Jan 1, 2022, amid frustration with crypto miners' undertaxed usage of the national power grid.
