Between the Oct 3 open ($0.04296) and the Oct 11 high ($0.1265), $STRK added about 194%. It now trades at $0.0420, below where that run started and roughly 67% under the peak. A full round trip in one month.

That's an extreme case, but it's a good excuse for a volatility check across the seven coins I follow. Numbers below are annualized realized volatility from Binance spot: the 7-day figure uses hourly closes, the 30-day figure uses daily closes. Hourly-based readings usually run a bit hotter, so look at the ranking and the direction more than the exact gap.

1) The majors woke up a little

BTC: 37% (7d) vs 28% (30d). The 7-day range was $76,326 to $81,971, about 7.4% high to low. Price is $78,269, down 2.8% on the week and 7.4% on the month.

ETH: 46% vs 37%. Down 1.6% on the week, 13.8% on the month.

SOL: 56% vs 42%. The weakest major: down 6.8% on the week and 20.2% over 30 days.

BNB: 61% vs 40%. That's the biggest jump among large caps; its 7-day range ran from $680 to $762.

XRP: 52% vs 45%. Down 15.5% over 30 days.

The pattern: short-term volatility is above the monthly reading on every one of these, while prices drift lower. Rising volatility with no rebound usually means sellers are still active, not that the market has calmed down.

2) $HYPE is the outlier, and in the other direction

HYPE is the only one of the seven that's green on the week, up 12.4%. It also has the widest 7-day range of the group: $76.75 to $97.74, about 27%. 7-day vol reads 101% against 59% on the 30-day. In other words, the bounce came with big swings both ways. It's at $86.73 now, so it has already given back part of that move from the weekly high.

3) STRK: the volatility that's already gone

STRK's 30-day reading is 251%, mainly because of that October run. The 7-day number has cooled to 108%. Volume tells the same story. On Oct 11, the peak day, Binance spot STRK traded about $104M. Over the last 24 hours it was about $2.4M. Oct 12 alone closed 31% below the Oct 11 close.

When a coin moves like that, two things tend to happen. The 30-day figure stays high for weeks, which makes the coin look "active" long after the action is over. And the people who bought the top lose interest, so volume dries up. STRK is down 4.7% in the last 24h on very thin volume, which is the second part.

4) What I take from this

Volatility clusters, but it doesn't tell you direction. High readings on SOL and BNB this week came with falling prices. On HYPE they came with a rally. On STRK, the extreme reading is really a leftover from October.

The practical part is position sizing. A position in a coin running 100%+ annualized vol moves about three times as much as a same-size BTC position at 37%. If you size every trade the same in dollars, your real risk is concentrated in the smallest coins. Cutting size on high-vol names, or setting stops based on their actual range, makes more sense than assuming every chart moves like BTC.

Low-cap names like STRK and HYPE can move 20%+ in a week in either direction, so treat them accordingly.

What's your approach: do you size down on high-volatility coins, or keep the same position size everywhere?

Not financial advice.
