#AIStocksWhatNext AI stocks have already made a major move, and that makes me ask a different question: if AI demand keeps growing, where does the money have to flow next?
I’m looking one layer behind the biggest names. AI needs far more than chips. It needs data centers, electricity generation, grid equipment, transmission, cooling, optical networking, semiconductors, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, energy storage and construction.
Jensen Huang has pointed to continued rapid growth in AI compute demand, while Nvidia’s latest outlook still reflects strong infrastructure spending.
The power requirement is becoming harder to ignore. One recent study estimates electricity use from AI-focused data centers could reach 239–295 TWh by 2030, though that remains a scenario-based estimate, not a certainty.
Texas is a useful example of the bottleneck. More than 470 GW of projects were waiting for grid access, prompting a new permitting pause and grid review.
So I’m not simply asking whether AI stocks are expensive. I’m asking who supplies what AI cannot scale without.
If AI demand keeps expanding, which part of the infrastructure underneath it captures the next wave of spending?
