According to CNBC, more than 100 artificial intelligence experts and evaluators have signed a public letter warning that they lack the resources and protections needed to test the safety of frontier AI models. The letter, organized by the AI Evaluator Forum consortium, calls on foundation model providers to give third-party evaluators scientific objectivity, transparency, independence and robust protections, including access comparable to that of highly privileged employees, prompt communication with boards and protection from retaliation. Conrad Stosz, chair of the consortium, said the effort is meant to establish shared principles for independent oversight and hold model makers accountable to their pledges to support more thorough third-party AI safety testing.
