💵 US Government Shutdown Day 36: Dollar Defies Crisis

The US government shutdown has entered Day 36, marking the longest in American history. Around 2.9 million workers remain affected, with economists estimating a 0.1% GDP loss per week of continued closure. Yet, in a surprising twist, the US Dollar Index (DXY) continues to climb, defying typical market expectations during prolonged political paralysis. 🏦📈

Analysts like Dhwani Mehta note that safe-haven flows and resilient labor data are keeping the dollar buoyant, as investors still see USD as the “least risky asset” in uncertain times. Meanwhile, yields remain steady, and risk sentiment globally hasn’t deteriorated sharply enough to trigger a major sell-off.

Traders are now closely watching Congress negotiations for any sign of progress — or a deeper stalemate — which could dictate short-term volatility across FX, equities, and crypto markets alike.
