🚨WILD: China just unveiled a 13-foot, 2,400-pound humanoid robot that can lift over 1,100 pounds, and it looks like it walked straight out of a mecha anime.
Named Neo1, the machine comes from NeodraDynamics, a Beijing startup founded by researchers out of Tsinghua University, and was revealed at the 2026 China International Industry Fair alongside partner JD Industrial.
What makes Neo1 genuinely different is its hybrid actuation system. While most humanoid robots have gone fully electric in recent years, including Boston Dynamics retiring its hydraulic Atlas back in 2024, NeodraDynamics went the opposite direction, pairing 39 hydraulic actuators with electric servo control across 41 independently controlled degrees of freedom, including 15 in each hand alone.
The combination is designed to solve a problem that's plagued heavy-duty robotics, raw strength without sacrificing precision. The company claims Neo1 can deliver enough force to push loads over a metric ton while still achieving repeatable positioning accuracy down to about ±0.005 millimeters, roughly the width of a fine human hair.
The target use cases read like a list of jobs nobody wants to do personally, nuclear facility maintenance, underwater infrastructure work at depths up to 10,000 meters, mining, demolition, and disaster response, operating in conditions ranging from -50°C to 250°C.
It's worth noting Neo1 has so far mostly been shown through press materials and static displays rather than live demonstrations performing these claimed tasks, so real-world validation is still pending. Still, as a statement of where China's robotics ambitions are heading, this one's hard to ignore.
