Nillion $NIL — Seven Eras, One Question: Can Encrypted Intent Become a New Layer of Onchain Finance?
I was thinking about how much information we reveal before a financial transaction even happens. A limit order, a liquidation level, even a simple decision to move funds. Someone can potentially learn what we're planning before we've actually done anything.
That makes Nillion's approach interesting to me.
With Dusk now live on Ethereum mainnet, Nillion is introducing Covenants, instructions designed to remain encrypted until their execution conditions are met. And Dusk is only the first of seven planned eras.
But I keep coming back to something else.
If nobody can read an instruction beforehand, who verifies that the system behaves correctly afterward? Privacy protects intentions, but financial markets still need accountability.
There is also a difference between developers experimenting with encrypted instructions and users repeatedly depending on them.
One creates activity. The other might create actual demand.
I wouldn't measure Nillion's progress only by how many applications integrate Covenants. I'd watch how often people return to use them without incentives.
Seven eras could expand what's technically possible.
I'm less certain when encrypted intent becomes something finance genuinely cannot operate without.
