The Blockchain Association, a leading advocacy group for the cryptocurrency industry, has called for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler to recuse himself from crypto-related matters. This comes after Coinbase filed a notice of intent to dismiss the SEC’s lawsuit against the exchange. The Association argues in their open letter that Gensler's belief that all digital assets, except Bitcoin, are securities shows he cannot approach enforcement decisions fairly and impartially, as required by federal law. They assert that Gensler's stance makes him biased in any SEC action concerning crypto, including during the Wells Process which requires a fair assessment from the SEC.
