The rise and fall of $DOGE — the first big meme coin.

Dec 6, 2013: Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer launch Dogecoin as a joke built on the Shiba Inu "doge" meme. Within a month, Dogecoin.com sees over a million visitors. The community tips on Reddit, funds Jamaica's bobsled team for Sochi, and even sponsors a NASCAR car.

May 2021: Attention explodes. $DOGE prints a high near $0.74 on Binance and briefly tops an $85B market cap. Days later, during Elon Musk's Saturday Night Live appearance (May 8), price slides hard — a reminder that meme coins trade on vibes.

Late 2022–2023: Long quiet years after the boom. April 2023 briefly flares when Twitter swaps its bird logo for Doge.

Nov 2024: Trump announces a "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE). Price spikes; Binance daily highs that December reach about $0.48.

Today (Nov 6, 2026): $DOGE sits near $0.072 on Binance, down about 6% with the broader dump. Still far below the 2021 peak — and still mostly an attention coin.

Lesson: a joke can become a multi-billion market when culture piles in. The same attention can leave just as fast. Price follows narrative more than fundamentals here.
