🇰🇷 SOUTH KOREA JUST DELAYED CRYPTO TAXES… AGAIN. UNTIL 2029.
Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il said it with a "heavy heart": the 22% crypto gains tax, set for January 2027, is getting pushed back two more years.
If the Assembly signs off, it will be the fourth delay since the law was written in 2020.
What changes:
→ Tax start moves from 2027 to 2029
→ Investors could carry losses forward for 3 years
→ Reason #1: US crypto tax data sharing under CARF only starts in 2029
→ Reason #2: Seoul wants its Digital Asset Act finished first
The rate itself stays the same: 22% on yearly net gains above 2.5M won (~$1,870).
Korea is one of the biggest retail crypto markets on the planet. Another two years of no capital-gains tax is a real gift for local traders… and a headache for anyone who wanted clear rules yesterday.
Bullish for Korean volume, or just more policy whiplash? 👇
