WAIT… Your crypto might be safe, but your personal information could put you at risk.

@CZ has raised an important security warning following four reported data leaks across the crypto and traditional finance industries.

The incidents involved Coinbase's third-party analytics provider Amplitude, South Korea's Bithumb, Mirae Asset and Daishin Securities.

But here's what caught my attention.

Hackers don't always need access to your exchange account to cause damage.

Sometimes, all they need is your personal information.

Think about it:

If criminals get access to your email, phone number, full name or residential address, they can use that information to launch targeted attacks

For example:

🔹 Phishing: Sending fake exchange emails or messages that look so convincing you might unknowingly reveal your login details.

🔹 SIM swapping: Taking control of your phone number to intercept SMS verification codes.

🔹 Social engineering: Pretending to be exchange support and using your leaked information to gain your trust.

🔹 Physical attacks: In extreme cases, exposed personal details combined with information about someone's crypto holdings can create real-world security risks.

So, what can we do?

CZ's warning is a reminder to take personal security seriously

Here are some practical steps:

  1. Use a different email address or alias for each exchange.

  2. Avoid relying on SMS-based 2FA. Use passkeys, hardware security keys or authenticator apps.

  3. Never share your passwords, OTPs or wallet recovery phrases.

  4. Be suspicious of unsolicited messages claiming to be from exchange support.

  5. Avoid publicly sharing your crypto holdings.

  6. Review your account sessions and API permissions regularly.

My biggest takeaway?

Crypto security isn't just about protecting your wallet or private keys.

It's also about protecting the personal information connected to your identity

You might have strong passwords and a secure wallet, but one careless interaction with a convincing scammer could put everything at risk.

Remember: Not every message that knows your name deserves your trust.

Stay SAFU. 🔐

What do you think: Are crypto users paying enough attention to personal data security, or are we too focused on protecting our assets?
