What if we told you France just voted for a new internet tax with only 11 votes? Last Friday, French lawmakers approved a €0.055 tax on every GB sent to users in France. It passed 11 to 10, with only 35 of 577 deputies taking part. The tax is paid by companies like Netflix, Google, Meta and Amazon, not by users. A single 218 GB download of GTA 6 would cost the platform ~€12. Even VLC, a free app made by a nonprofit, says the tax would cost it over €1 million a year.
