The maximum annual emission is proposed to be gradually reduced from 2.5% to 1.6% over two years. The initiative was supported by 99.97% of veNEAR voting participants.
For holders, this means a slower growth in the token supply. But staking rewards will also decrease: according to the authors' calculations, the gross return may decrease from 5.27% to 3.37% if the share of tokens in staking does not change.
The decrease will not begin immediately: ahead is a review by the Security Council, a protocol update, acceptance by validators, and a transition period of about 90 days.
