The Akash community approved governance Proposal 346 to move the Akash protocol from its independent Cosmos chain, akashnet-2, to the Solana mainnet. According to ChainCatcher, the proposal passed with about 97% support and 68.8% voter turnout.

The proposal authorizes AKT to be issued as a Solana SPL token after audits of the token and migration portal. It also provides for a two-year, one-way migration portal through which holders can exchange AKT for SPL AKT at a 1:1 ratio. Two independent code audits must be completed before launch and are expected within two to three weeks of the proposal’s approval.

After migration, Akash Marketplace, AkashML and Akash Homenode are slated to deploy natively on Solana. The team cited lower transaction costs, Solana’s DePIN ecosystem, liquidity and user base as reasons for the move. No date has been set for switching the computing marketplace; that decision will require a separate governance vote after audits and migration rehearsals are completed. Further on-chain votes are expected on the market-switch proposal, switch upgrades and shutdown upgrades.
