November 3 could prove one of the most consequential days of 2026 for financial markets.

The U.S. midterm elections are two days away. The outcome will shape the legislative and geopolitical environment for stocks, crypto, energy, and the broader global economy through the rest of this year and into 2027.

Prediction markets currently assign Democrats a high probability of winning the House (roughly 92–94%) and a solid chance of taking the Senate (around 70–72%). A Democratic sweep of both chambers sits near the 70% range in several major platforms.

Three areas deserve particular attention from investors:

1. AI stocks

House Democrats recently introduced a resolution opposing any government bailout for AI companies or related financial institutions in the event of a collapse in the AI sector. The measure, led by Ranking Member Maxine Waters and Progressive Caucus Chair Greg Casar, explicitly rejects taxpayer rescues, emergency lending, or protection for executives, arguing that failing firms should go through ordinary bankruptcy processes. This comes against a backdrop of growing concern over the scale of capital being deployed into AI infrastructure and elevated valuations.

2. Crypto regulation

In September, every Senate Democrat voted against advancing the CLARITY Act, the major digital-asset market-structure bill. The procedural failure effectively stalled comprehensive crypto legislation for the remainder of this Congress. A Democratic majority in either or both chambers would likely make negotiations over future market-structure and regulatory clarity more complex and potentially slower.

3. Geopolitical risk — Iran

Multiple reports indicate that the U.S. has warned Middle Eastern allies to prepare for the possibility of renewed military action against Iran after November 3. Any resumption of significant strikes would raise the risk of higher oil prices, supply disruptions, and renewed inflationary pressure.

This election is therefore about more than partisan control of Congress. The results could influence the regulatory stance toward AI, the path of crypto legislation, and the near-term trajectory of energy markets and geopolitical risk premiums. All three have the potential to affect how risk assets trade for the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.
