One thing I find genuinely interesting about Kite is how it is making payments part of the agent economy.

Think about it: if an agent can complete a task, search for information, or interact with different services, it may also need to pay for those services. But giving an agent access to money without clear restrictions would create a different problem.

Kite is approaching this through a few important components.

1. An Identity for Every Agent

Kite Agent Passport gives agents an identity they can use when interacting with supported services. This helps establish which agent is performing an action.

2. A Wallet Built for Agent Payments

An agent can use its funded Passport wallet to pay for supported services on behalf of its user. Payments require funds in the wallet, including USDC.e on Kite Chain for the documented payment flow.

3. Spending Rules Set by the User

This is one of the most interesting parts for me. Before an agent starts spending, the user approves a session using a passkey.

The session can define:

- Maximum spending per transaction

- Total budget available

- Approved payment assets

- How long the session remains active

4. Access to Paid Services

Through supported payment protocols such as x402, agents can discover paid APIs, request payment, and receive the service response after the transaction is completed.

5. Activity and Payment Visibility

Users can review their payment activity and monitor spending sessions. This makes it easier to understand what an agent has paid for and how much of its approved budget it has used.

Why does this matter?

Imagine asking an agent to retrieve specific information from a paid API. Instead of manually handling every payment step, the agent can work within a spending session that you have already approved.

That's the practical idea behind this approach: agents get the ability to perform tasks, while users define the financial boundaries.

The agent economy is still evolving, but identity, payment authorization, and transparent spending are important problems to solve. Kite is building around these areas, and that's what makes this project worth following.
