$XLM has launched Project Thruput, a new execution model running on FutureNet that aims to scale blockchain performance across multiple machines.
Early tests reached 7.02 million payments per second using eight machines, compared with 1.18 million on one machine.
The 7.02M figure is an early benchmark, not Stellar mainnet speed. Project Thruput is still being tested on FutureNet, with its code and benchmarks available for developers to explore.
The main goal is to build a system that can handle much larger volumes of payments and onchain activity as more computing power is added.
