Real usage vs. token value capture: Which crypto projects connect the two best?
A project can have strong adoption and still have a weak link between its success and its token.
That’s why I think these six projects are worth comparing:
🟢 $HYPE — Trading activity and its fee-related mechanisms create a relatively direct connection to the token. Unlocks and token supply still matter.
🟡 $LINK — Oracle and cross-chain infrastructure can grow in use, but network adoption does not automatically translate into equal demand for LINK.
🟡 $UNI — Uniswap has significant trading activity. The important question is how governance and protocol changes affect the value captured by UNI holders.
🟡 $ONDO — Tokenized real-world assets can expand without creating the same level of demand for ONDO itself.
🟡 $TAO — Bittensor rewards contributions across AI-focused subnets, but the long-term value depends on sustainable demand and how the network’s incentives work.
🟡 $RENDER — GPU computing has practical use cases. The key question is how demand for the network translates into demand for its token.
These are different models, so a simple ranking can miss important details. Token supply, incentives, fees, governance, and actual usage all matter.
My takeaway: I’d look beyond adoption numbers and ask one question: What specific mechanism connects product usage to token demand or benefits for holders?
Which project do you think has the clearest connection—and what evidence supports your view?
