Hashim Djojohadikusumo, younger brother of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, said Indonesia’s stock market needs credibility and transparency, and called for resolving “MSCI-related issues” and stopping speculation in individual stocks. According to Sina Finance, he made the remarks to business leaders at a forum on Thursday in Jakarta, speaking as a presidential special envoy and chair of the advisory board of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Hashim said the president had tasked him with helping prevent the situation from spiraling out of control. He called it an extremely serious problem, saying foreign investor withdrawals from Indonesia’s stock market could further weaken the rupiah, raise external debt-servicing costs, and have disastrous consequences for the Indonesian economy.
