Institutions can now tap DeFi liquidity without moving assets out of custody.

Chainlink dropped CustodySync on Oct 27, partnering with Anchorage Digital Bank. The setup: $7T in digital asset custody vs $250T in TradFi custody—DeFi is 0.5% of that pie. Meanwhile, DeFi lending sits at $80B+ deposits, $30B+ borrowed. The bottleneck? Regulated institutions can't move collateral out of qualified custody to access DeFi yields.

How it works:
1. Collateral stays with the custodian. Chainlink Proof of Reserve publishes balances on-chain—fully transparent.
2. A non-transferable receipt token represents the custodied asset. It's only valid within this integrated system—zero claim on underlying assets outside it.
3. Borrows/repays execute atomically. Every transaction syncs back to the custodian's off-chain ledger in real time.
4. Price feeds are unified: on-chain contracts read Data Feeds, custodian systems read Data Streams. Same price, same LTV calculation—no discrepancies.
5. Liquidations trigger via a designated collateral agent following their own procedures.

The real alpha: unified accounting. TradFi and DeFi don't connect because they don't trust each other's books. CustodySync forces both sides to use the same data source. No more "healthy position" getting liquidated due to price lag, or underwater loans slipping through.

Open questions:
- Liquidations still happen off-chain. How fast can the agent execute in volatile markets? No data yet.
- Anchorage already ran a similar tri-party structure with Spark (Atlas as collateral agent, $BTC in custody). CustodySync standardizes this, but only one custodian is live. Which lending protocols are integrated? What's the size?
- GitHub shows zero public code for CustodySync as of Oct 27 morning.

What to watch:
- Second custodian announcement
- First public lending market integration and supported collateral types
- More reveals before Link:NYC on Oct 29

$LINK traded $11.23-$11.61 during the 12 hours post-announcement. Sitting at $11.31 as of Oct 27, 10:06 AM.
