📡 Market Update | Why $BTC (BTCUSDT Perp) Broke Below $80K
Today was a geopolitical day, not a crypto day. $BTC (BTCUSDT Perp) slipped below $80K to near $79.5K, down about 2.6% on the day, while $ETH and $SOL fell about 3% to 4%. The move did not start inside crypto.
The trigger was the Middle East. US intelligence said Iranian preparations to attack Americans had reached advanced stages, and Washington started evacuating personnel from embassies and military bases across the region. Tehran has warned that any renewed US strikes could bring wider attacks on Gulf economic and civilian targets, while Houthi attacks on Saudi oil sites have already kept supply risk in focus. A third US carrier group heading to the region only added to that sense of escalation.
That fear showed up first in oil. Brent settled at $116.72 on Friday, its highest close since April and up 6.2% on the week. Higher energy prices keep inflation pressure alive just days before the Fed meeting on Oct 27 to 28, and that makes it harder for risk assets to find buyers.
Crypto was already fragile before this headline. US spot $BTC ETFs saw about $635M in outflows on Thursday, the largest since June, plus another $138M on Friday. Tech stocks had also sold off on AI spending doubts, with the Nasdaq down 2.6% on Thursday, and about $431M in crypto liquidations flushed leverage on both sides of the move.
My view is this looks like de risking across the board, not a crypto specific failure. $BTC is trading like a risk asset again, and until oil cools or the Middle East headline risk eases, bounces could stay fragile.
👀 Levels on my radar
Support $79K / $78K
Resistance $80K / $82.5K
The next test is the Fed decision on Oct 28, but the Middle East headlines could move oil and $BTC well before that. Worth watching how $80K behaves now, as support turned resistance.
📌 Personal opinion, not financial advice. DYOR.
