$IRYS just delivered a textbook lesson in what leverage does to a thin market.

According to liquidation trackers shared on X, IRYS perps ran from roughly $0.027 to above $0.50 in under 24 hours, with around $2.9B in 24h volume. Shorts took the overwhelming majority of the damage: figures circulating put short liquidations near $56–59M, close to 90% of all IRYS liquidations in that window. Then the move reversed hard, and price slid back into the $0.07–0.10 range, more than 80% off the top.

My take: this wasn't a verdict on Irys's datachain. Roughly two-thirds of traders were reportedly positioned short into the rally, and that crowding became the fuel. Forced buybacks pushed price up, which liquidated more shorts, until the late longs who chased the squeeze became the next exit liquidity. One trader summed it up: shorted at $0.08, got liquidated, and price is back at $0.08.

A few things I'm taking from it:
1. Being "right" on direction means nothing if your size can't survive the path.
2. Crowded funding and lopsided positioning are signals, not just stats.
3. Squeeze candles rarely tell you anything about fundamentals.

Low-float perps can move 10x both ways in a day. Size for the wick, not for the thesis.
