🇺🇸🇫🇷🇳🇱🇮🇶 Air France and Dutch airline KLM got fined for flying Delta-coded flights over Iraq
The U.S. Transportation Department fined KLM $320,000 and Air France $105,000 today, and ordered both airlines to stop.
The reason is that these flights were sold under Delta’s flight code, which means U.S. safety rules applied to them.
And those rules ban U.S. operators from flying through restricted parts of the airspace managed from Baghdad, because of the safety risk.
Even so, KLM ran more than 100 of these flights and Air France more than 30, between 2022 and 2025.
Spread over 130-plus flights, that works out to less than $3,270 a flight.
