Starknet voters just green-lit research into a post-quantum Layer 1 — not an exit yet.

A seven-day Snapshot poll for STRK stakers and delegators closed on October 22, 2026 with about 93.52% of voting power in favor and roughly 3,200 votes cast — StarkWare’s highest governance turnout yet. The company abstained so the community could decide. The yes only authorizes research into an independent, post-quantum L1; Starknet stays an Ethereum Layer 2 for now, and any real transition needs a separate binding vote.

StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation have started a working group, with CEO Eli Ben-Sasson targeting a draft whitepaper for public review in November. $STRK remains the only token, no new coin is planned, and Ethereum bridges stay open while the quantum-security roadmap is studied. Watch November’s paper, not headlines claiming an instant L1 flip.
