What happened?
On Oct 21, Solana activated its big Alpenglow upgrade, replacing the old TowerBFT system used since March 2020. The goal is finality in just 150 milliseconds, down from about 12.8 seconds before. The Solana Foundation dashboard showed observed finality near 202 milliseconds — so transactions now confirm almost instantly. Execution rules and fees stay unchanged.
Why is price down then?
On my live chart at 6:19 PM PKT today, Thursday Oct 22, $SOL is at $104.38, down 2.67% in 24 hours, with a high of $109.20 and a low of $103.55. The whole market is red today — Bitcoin is also down to about $81,775 — so SOL is falling with the market, not because of the upgrade. Faster finality could help exchanges, payment apps and trading platforms over time.
What levels are traders watching?
Resistance is $109.20, today's high — a break and hold above it would show buyers are back. Support is $103.55 first, today's low. If that breaks, $100 is the big level everyone is watching.
