**📅 The Timeline**
Developers are targeting November 5 for NU7 mainnet activation. The NU7 testnet went live at block height 4,465,026. That block was mined on October 4, and Zcash confirmed the activation on X. The mainnet decision was scheduled for October 20, with November 5 as the target date.
Several teams, including the Zcash Foundation, Project Tachyon, Valar, ZODL and Shielded Labs, agreed on the scope and timing. That kind of alignment is rare in crypto. 🤝

**⚡ What Is Changing?**
**1️⃣ Faster blocks.** NU7 aims to cut the target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. That triples block frequency. Payments should confirm faster, which is important for a coin that wants to be used, not just held. 💸
**2️⃣ Version 4 transactions retired.** NU7 disables version 4 transactions. ⚠️ ZEC left in the old Sprout shielded pool becomes unspendable unless users move it before NU7 fully activates. If you have old coins sitting in older pools, check them now.
**3️⃣ Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM).** 🔄 The NSM directs 60% of transaction fees toward supporting the network's longevity. The mechanism reissues burned fees rather than destroying them. The aim is to fund long-term network security without breaking Zcash's fixed supply promise.

The 21 million ZEC cap and the four-year halving pattern are both preserved. The community settled this after the NSM became a sticking point in polling. For long-term holders, the scarcity story remains. 🧱
