🚨🔐 Polkadot Foundation Warns: Fearless Wallet Extension Leaked Private Keys ⚠️

Imagine opening your crypto wallet to check your balance, unaware that the key protecting your funds may already have been exposed. Your assets can look perfectly safe while someone else potentially holds the power to move them.

On October 21, the Polkadot Community Foundation issued a serious warning about the Fearless Wallet browser extension. Versions 3.0.1, 3.0.3, 3.0.4, and 3.0.5 contained code that could transmit private keys to an attacker-controlled server when users unlocked the wallet.

The reported damage is already real: eight users reported unauthorized transactions totaling 17,286 DOT. But reported losses do not necessarily reveal the full number of accounts exposed.

One crucial distinction: Fearless Wallet is a third-party application, not an official Polkadot wallet. This incident does not automatically mean the Polkadot blockchain itself was compromised.

If you have used the affected browser extension since February 2025, treat every account it contained as compromised. Create a completely new keypair using a different, trusted wallet and move your funds safely. Simply changing your password or reinstalling the extension will not invalidate an exposed private key.

Never share your recovery phrase with anyone claiming they can recover stolen funds. If assets are staked or locked, seek trusted security guidance before taking action.

The hardest crypto lesson is this: owning your keys means controlling your assets, but protecting those keys is your responsibility.

Does this incident change how you choose a wallet for long-term crypto storage?
