Gold is near a critical support zone, but the chart is not showing a confirmed bullish reversal yet.
On the Binance chart you shared, XAU/USDT is trading around $4,138. Since the August peak near $4,700, price has formed lower highs and moved into a tight $4,100–$4,200 range. My base case is volatile, range-bound trading with a slight downside bias until buyers reclaim key resistance levels.
What the latest news tells us
1. The Federal Reserve is the biggest short-term driver.
Reuters reported on October 21 that markets were pricing in an 88% chance of a December rate hike, while a hike at the October 27–28 meeting was considered less likely. Higher interest rates and Treasury yields generally pressure gold because it pays no interest.
2. Inflation is creating a complicated signal.
US CPI inflation reached 3.7% year over year in September. Meanwhile, Brent crude was trading around $108 per barrel amid Middle East tensions. Geopolitical risk can support gold as a safe haven, but higher oil prices can also keep inflation elevated and increase expectations of tighter monetary policy. That combination is not automatically bullish for gold.
3. Central-bank demand remains an important support.
The World Gold Council reported 289 tonnes of net central-bank gold purchases in Q2 2026. It also expects investment demand and central-bank buying to support the market through the remainder of the year. These factors may cushion corrections, although they cannot guarantee a price recovery.
My gold price forecast for year-end 2026
These are my scenario-based estimates, not guaranteed targets or a published institutional forecast.
- Base case: $4,000–$4,400. Gold remains volatile and struggles to establish a sustained uptrend while rate-hike expectations and yields remain elevated. A year-end level near $4,200 would be consistent with this scenario.
- Bullish case: $4,450–$4,700. A weaker dollar, falling yields, a more dovish Fed outlook or escalating geopolitical risks could help gold recover. A sustained move above $4,400 would strengthen this scenario.
- Bearish case: $3,700–$4,000. Persistent inflation, a stronger dollar, higher yields and a decisive breakdown below $4,000 could trigger another correction.
The price levels I am watching
Resistance: $4,200 → $4,300 → $4,400
Support: $4,100 → $4,000 → $3,900
A break above $4,200 would be an initial improvement, but I would want to see sustained strength above $4,300–$4,400 before treating the broader correction as convincingly reversed. A sustained break below $4,100 would put $4,000 back in focus.
My final view: I lean toward a $4,000–$4,400 range into year-end, with around $4,200 as a central scenario—not a certainty. The next major clues will be the Fed meeting, inflation data, the dollar and Treasury yields. I would not assume gold must rise simply because geopolitical tensions are high.
