Utah sued Kalshi and two Susquehanna trading firms Tuesday, alleging they operated an illegal gambling business in the state. According to NS3.AI, Utah estimates Kalshi collected $30.6 million to $61.2 million in fees from Utah-based accounts through Oct. 19, though the state says the actual amount could be much higher or lower.

Utah is seeking to block sports, election, politics, culture and “mentions” bets through court-approved location checks. It is also seeking the return of allegedly illegal proceeds, compensation for the state and residents, and damages.

Sports and gaming attorney Daniel Wallach described the case as the first state attorney general enforcement action targeting prediction-market market makers.
