⚠️ Zcash’s NU7 upgrade could lock up legacy Sprout ZEC
Under ZIP-2003, the NU7 upgrade would disable version 4 transactions, the only format that can spend funds in Zcash’s original Sprout shielded pool. Once that happens, ZEC left in Sprout could become unspendable.
🔹 The proposal doesn’t burn these funds, and access could be restored later. But it warns that coins left in the pool may stay locked for good.
🔹 Only Sprout funds are affected. Transparent ZEC and the Sapling pool are not part of this change.
🔹 Key dates: testnet activation on October 5–6, a mainnet go/no-go decision on October 20, and a target mainnet date of November 5.
