Leverage does not wait for a trader to feel ready.

CoinNess published a fresh alert at 21:34 UTC on October 17: $136 million in futures liquidations over the preceding hour.

An independent check of CoinGlass at 21:37 UTC showed a later rolling snapshot:
• 1-hour liquidations: $157.74 million.
• Long positions: $136.68 million.
• Short positions: $21.07 million.
• 24-hour liquidations: $263.10 million.

The snapshots have different observation times; these are not fixed totals. CoinGlass's covered derivatives venues also include non-crypto perpetuals, so the aggregate should not be described as crypto-only losses. Rounded components may not add exactly.

Within the ETH row, CoinGlass showed $25.08 million in long liquidations and $1.51 million in short liquidations over one hour at that observation time.

Analysis: forced position closures show leverage stress, not proof that a bottom is in or that the next move is certain. Higher leverage reduces the adverse move a position can withstand; liquidation can consume the collateral supporting it. This update is not an entry signal.

Conclusion
For $ETH, distinguish a liquidation snapshot from a price forecast. Risk controls matter more than guessing a rebound from one headline.
