Philosopher Troy Cross said Bitcoin acts as a counterweight to endless money creation because people may seek refuge in it, even though he does not expect governments to stop printing money soon. According to ChainCatcher, he made the remarks in a Bitcoin Magazine interview about whether Bitcoin can truly separate money from the state.
Cross said academia will likely be the last group to understand Bitcoin, after innovators, finance professionals, and journalists. He cited a Getting Bitcoin event that reached The Wall Street Journal and said Bitcoin articles there drew four to six times normal traffic.
He also referenced a Nakamoto Project survey, saying Bitcoin is becoming normalized while also becoming more partisan and polarized. Cross added that Bitcoin still faces a branding problem because it is often confused with the broader crypto asset class.
He said Bitcoin needs to cross the gap and reach the 82% of people who still do not hold it, and argued that Bitcoin can help keep governments honest. The interview also touched on the setback to the Clarity Act and why Bitcoin continues to move forward.
