Kraken's parent Payward is buying Lithuania's Saldo Bank

Payward is buying the EU-licensed Saldo Bank in Lithuania, according to the FT and Decrypt. It would be the first digital-asset company to buy a European bank. Saldo has held a specialized banking license from the ECB and the Bank of Lithuania since 2021. It has about €124M in loans, €137M in retail deposits and €163M in assets, and it made €0.96M in profit in 2025. #Payward wants cash, crypto, tokenized stocks, lending and cards on one platform, so users can borrow against their holdings without selling. The price wasn't disclosed, and the deal is expected to close in 2027 if the ECB and Bank of Lithuania approve it
