#CPIWatch | The Real Risk Is the Fed Repricing

My base case: September headline CPI could surprise to the upside as energy costs feed into inflation. But a higher headline number alone does not guarantee another Fed rate hike.

The key question is whether energy-driven inflation spreads into core prices and changes the Fed's policy outlook.

My market framework:

- CPI above expectations + Treasury yields rise: bearish pressure on long-duration bonds. TBT may benefit if its underlying inverse exposure moves as expected.
- CPI below expectations + yields fall: potential relief rally for long-duration bonds. TMF could benefit, but its leverage amplifies risk.
- Mixed CPI + conflicting yield signals: stay patient. The market reaction matters more than the headline.

My approach: wait for the CPI surprise, then confirm the move in the 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields before taking directional exposure. No trade is better than forcing a macro thesis.

Watch the data. Confirm the repricing. Protect capital.

What matters more this time: headline CPI, core inflation, or the Treasury market's reaction?
