From Price Tracking to Cash Dividends How Tokenized Stocks Are Evolving

On October 12, Binance announced that MU (Micron Technology) holders on bStocks would be able to receive cash dividends.

To process the distribution, Binance will temporarily pause the 1:1 exchange between MU stock and MUB bStocks, along with MUB deposits, withdrawals, and conversions, starting October 13 at 23:30 UTC. These services will resume automatically once the distribution is complete. Eligible dividend payments will be credited directly to users’ spot accounts.

Why does this matter?

Until now, much of the focus around tokenized stocks has been on tracking the price movements of traditional stocks through blockchain-based assets. Adding cash dividends brings another part of the traditional stock experience into the picture.

Think of it this way holding a stock can mean more than watching its price go up or down. Dividends can also be part of the overall investment experience. Bringing this feature to tokenized stocks could make them more useful and appealing to investors.

However, there’s an important distinction to remember. Receiving dividends through a tokenized asset does not automatically mean you own the underlying traditional shares. The actual rights, trading conditions, and regulatory protections depend on how the specific product is structured.

Tokenized stocks are gradually moving beyond simple price exposure. The bigger question now is how much of the traditional equity experience they can offer while maintaining transparency, reliable settlement, and clear investor protections.
