ARGENTINA PUTS CRYPTO BANKING ON HOLD FOR TWO YEARS

Argentina’s crypto market remains active but bringing digital assets directly into traditional banking may take longer than expected.

According to reports from October 2026 Juan Curutchet a senior supervisor at Argentina’s central bank indicated that crypto integration into banking and payment channels is not expected to advance over the next two years. Economic fragility remains a major concern.

The important distinction is that this is a reported policy outlook not a newly announced two-year ban. Argentina’s existing 2022 rules already restrict regulated financial institutions from offering cryptoassets to customers.

For the industry the message is clear: growing crypto adoption does not automatically mean banks will receive regulatory approval to offer these services.

The key question is whether Argentina eventually creates a supervised framework that connects traditional banking with digital assets.

Will this delay protect financial stability, or slow down crypto innovation?
