THORChain has launched native Zcash swaps, allowing users to exchange ZEC for assets on other supported blockchains without wrapped tokens or centralized exchanges. According to ChainCatcher, the rollout follows protocol 3.20, which added support for Zcash and Monero.

The Zcash pool had more than $50,000 in liquidity at launch and had already begun processing live ZEC swaps. The pool is in a soft-launch phase and is being monitored for performance, with trading subject to temporary suspension if bugs or other issues emerge.

THORChain said the pool can currently support five-figure trades more easily, while larger transactions may face higher slippage and slower settlement until liquidity grows. When the fee-to-depth ratio is high enough, protocol-owned liquidity will automatically be added to the Zcash pool. The mechanism was introduced in the 3.20 upgrade, which allows part of the protocol’s liquidity fees, set at 20% at the time, to be deployed into supported liquidity pools.

With the integration, ZEC holders can swap native assets with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins without depositing Zcash with a centralized custodian or converting it into wrapped assets on another network. Zcash brings THORChain’s total number of native blockchains in its cross-chain liquidity network to 14, with swaps settled on their respective chains rather than through bridges or custodial transfers.
