Two chains that rarely appear in the same sentence have agreed to share the most valuable thing in crypto: the flow of digital dollars. Polygon's payments stack now speaks TRON, and the numbers involved are large enough to matter for both tokens.

📌 The news

Per CoinDesk, Polygon Labs added TRON support to Open Money Stack, its product for remittance firms, fintechs and payment companies. A business can now let a customer pay by bank transfer, debit card or cash, receive USDT in a TRON wallet, and later cash out to a bank account, all through one integration. USDT can also move between TRON and supported EVM networks inside the stack without the business separately connecting a wallet provider, a bridge or a fiat on-ramp operator.

📊 The numbers

• More than $94 billion of Tether's USDT circulates on TRON, per CoinDesk. With USDT's total market value near $184 billion per CoinGecko, that is roughly half of all USDT.

• About 93% of TRON's $30 trillion in Q2 stablecoin transfer volume was peer-to-peer, the highest share of any network CoinDesk tracks.

• Polygon says its fiat ramp uses money-transmitter licences and compliance systems covering 48 US states.

• Open Money Stack launched in January 2026 after Polygon moved to acquire Coinme and Sequence, described at the time as a $250 million push into stablecoin payments.

🔍 Why it matters

Polygon's co-founder Sandeep Nailwal told CoinDesk the goal is to let businesses offer TRON-based dollar services "through one integration". Justin Sun said customers expect assets to arrive where they want them regardless of chain. Read plainly: Polygon wants to be the orchestration layer and TRON wants to stay the settlement layer. Both get something: Polygon touches volume it never carried, TRON gets a regulated US on-ramp without building one.

⚖️ Bull vs bear case

• Bull: remittance is the use case stablecoins already won, and this removes the licensing and integration work that kept small payment firms out.

• Bear: $POL is down about 2.8% today and 10.8% on the week per CoinGecko, and $TRX is roughly flat near $0.335. Infrastructure deals rarely move tokens until volume shows up in fees.

• Caveat: Polygon stresses this does not make TRON a bank and does not remove any payment firm's licensing duties.

👀 What to watch next

• Named payment companies going live on the integration.

• Whether TRON's USDT supply keeps growing or whether flows start to split with EVM chains now that moving between them is easier.

• Any regulatory reaction to a US-licensed ramp feeding a network dominated by peer-to-peer dollar transfers.

━━━━━━━━━━━━

💡 My take: this is the kind of unglamorous deal that decides which chains carry real money. TRON already carries it; Polygon is betting that being the switchboard is worth more than being the wire.

💬 Would you build a payments product on TRON, on an EVM chain, or on whichever one the stack hides from you?
