Ethereum ($ETH ) just ran a test that could triple the network's capacity.

The Glamsterdam upgrade went live on Ethereum's Sepolia test network on Tuesday, lifting the block gas limit from 60 million to 200 million — blocks more than three times bigger. And it almost went wrong: developers rushed out a last-minute Prysm software update (version 7.2.1) the night before, because without it some validators would have kept making the old 60-million-gas blocks and watered down the whole test.

The test is really asking one question: can the computers running Ethereum handle blocks 3x larger without breaking? The answer decides how much room Ethereum's real network gets next. More room per block means more trades, more stablecoin transfers, more activity before users start competing for space and pushing fees up.

For now this is only a test network — Glamsterdam has no mainnet date yet. But if it holds up, Ethereum's biggest capacity jump in years moves one step closer to real.

If Ethereum could run at 3x capacity, how low do you think fees could actually go?
