Trump: "The Strait of Hormuz Belongs to the United States."
Trump says the U.S. now controls the Strait of Hormuz and issued a stark warning to Iranian ships attempting to breach the blockade:
"If it doesn't have oil, we just sink the ship."
But legally, Hormuz remains an international strait between Iran and Oman — Trump’s declaration does not itself make it U.S. territory.
The U.S. isn’t just guarding Hormuz anymore. Trump is claiming control of it.
