$BTC & Elon Musk — analysis
Elon Musk has not launched a Bitcoin-like coin, but he has publicly said that he owns Bitcoin and that Tesla and SpaceX own BTC. At the 2021 “B Word” conference, Musk said he supported Bitcoin while also warning about its energy use.
🔥 Why Musk matters for $BTC
1. Tesla still holds Bitcoin.
Tesla reported 11,509 BTC and did not buy or sell BTC during Q2 2026, despite recording a $112 million after-tax digital-asset loss for the quarter.
2. SpaceX has a much larger BTC position.
SpaceX disclosed 18,712 BTC in its 2026 filings. Later reporting indicated it continued holding that amount through Q2 2026.
That means the two Musk-led companies together have about 30,221 BTC based on their latest disclosed holdings.
3. Musk's influence is real, but don't trade only on his posts.
His comments have historically moved crypto markets, but Bitcoin's direction is also heavily affected by institutional flows, interest rates, liquidity and broader risk appetite. Recent reporting specifically notes that Musk's influence on Bitcoin is less important than these broader market factors.
