🇺🇸 The U.S. is lending $4.2 billion to squeeze more power out of nuclear plants it already has.

The money goes to energy company Vistra for upgrades at 3 of its plants, 2 in Ohio and 1 in Pennsylvania, without building a single new reactor.

AI is driving a lot of it, with data centers eating power so fast that the grid serving those states is staring at a shortfall by 2028.

Big Tech isn't waiting around either. Meta has already locked in long-term deals for power from all 3 plants, including about 433 megawatts from the very upgrades this loan helps pay for.

Washington gets more power on the grid, and Silicon Valley is already lining up to buy it.
