Bitcoin has pushed back above $86,000 as October begins with renewed attention on institutional crypto flows. The move follows a strong September recovery, with Bitcoin gaining momentum after a period of heavy ETF demand.

But the latest ETF numbers show a different picture. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about $82.9 million in provisional net inflows for the week ending October 2, a sharp slowdown from the previous week's $2.39 billion inflow. Ethereum ETFs, meanwhile, recorded about $118 million in net outflows.

The shift suggests that institutional demand is becoming more selective. Bitcoin continues to attract capital, while flows into other major crypto products have weakened. Solana ETFs recorded around $800,000 in net inflows for the latest week, compared with $188.1 million the week before. Zcash-related products also recorded significant outflows.

Bitcoin's latest move also comes as markets assess expectations around U.S. monetary policy. Recent comments from Federal Reserve officials have increased attention on the timing of future rate decisions, adding another macro factor to the crypto market narrative.

The bigger story is the contrast between Bitcoin's price strength and the slowdown in ETF flows. Price momentum has improved, but the latest fund data shows that the huge institutional inflows seen in late September have cooled sharply.

Pro Tip: Watch the next round of ETF flow data closely. A return of stronger Bitcoin inflows would show whether late-September institutional demand is continuing, while renewed outflows across major crypto ETFs would point to a more cautious market.

October is starting with Bitcoin in the spotlight, but the market is no longer moving on one simple narrative. ETF flows, Federal Reserve policy expectations and broader institutional positioning are now colliding to shape the next phase of crypto.
