Market snapshot before the US jobs release.

Bitcoin is leading today’s crypto rally, but the next test is whether buying remains strong after an important economic announcement.

CoinDesk reported Bitcoin above $86,000 at 09:10 UTC, up approximately 3.4% over 24 hours. Ethereum, XRP, Solana and BNB also advanced, but lagged Bitcoin’s percentage gain. These are reported market snapshots, not live quotes.

What has changed today?

The broader market backdrop has improved. Reuters reported falling Treasury yields and rising US stock futures ahead of September’s employment report, scheduled for 3:30 PM Riyadh time today. Investors are watching how the data could affect interest-rate expectations.

Crypto’s advance also comes with a caution: CoinDesk reported rising open interest and funding rates, indicating increased leveraged bullish positioning. That can make prices more sensitive to an unexpected reversal.

What comes next for Bitcoin and Ethereum?

My interpretation is that the reaction after the data matters more than the first price spike.

For Bitcoin, I’m watching whether spot buying continues once the initial excitement settles. A rally supported by sustained demand would be more convincing than a brief move driven by traders closing short positions.

For Ethereum, the key comparison is ETH/BTC. Ethereum can rise in dollars while losing ground against Bitcoin. Sustained improvement in that ratio would strengthen the case that participation is broadening beyond BTC.

For altcoins, isolated winners are not enough. I would look for gains across multiple sectors, supported by trading volume, before describing the move as a broad altcoin rally.

Three scenarios to watch

  • Continuation: Economic data reassures investors, yields remain contained and crypto holds its gains.

  • Consolidation: Traders take profits, but buying absorbs the selling and prices stabilize.

  • Reversal: The data pushes rate expectations higher or leveraged positions unwind, putting pressure on prices.

These are conditional scenarios, not price predictions.

Today’s question is straightforward: Can Bitcoin’s strength develop into a broader, sustained crypto advance? Ethereum’s relative performance and the market’s response to the jobs report should offer useful clues.

Are you watching BTC’s momentum or waiting for ETH to show stronger relative performance?
