What Is an Atomic Swap?
“Atomic swap” sounds complicated, but the basic idea is actually straightforward.
The goal is to make a transaction behave as one complete operation.
Either the agreed exchange happens, or the transaction does not leave the participants with an incomplete outcome.
Omniston uses a resolver-based architecture with hashed timelock contracts to coordinate cross-chain settlement.
A resolver can lock the destination-side asset while the user's source-side asset is handled through the corresponding conditions.
Once the required condition is met, both sides settle.
If the process cannot complete, the timelock mechanism provides a route for the assets to be returned.
This is why understanding the technology behind cross-chain swaps matters.
“Cross-chain” isn't one technology.
There are different architectures, and the architecture determines how the transaction behaves when everything works — and when it doesn't.
