BINANCE UNDER U.S. SCRUTINY OVER POSSIBLE IRAN SANCTIONS VIOLATIONS

🇺🇸 WHAT HAPPENED?
U.S. prosecutors are reportedly investigating whether Binance knowingly allowed certain Iran-linked trading activity that may have violated U.S. sanctions.

The investigation reportedly involves the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office and the DOJ Criminal Division.

WHY NOW?
The investigation comes shortly after the U.S. government sought the forfeiture of approximately $61M in cryptocurrency allegedly connected to proceeds from Iranian oil sales.

WHAT ARE PROSECUTORS EXAMINING?
The key question is whether Binance knew about certain Iran-linked activity and failed to prevent it despite its sanctions-compliance obligations.

BINANCE RESPONSE:
Binance says Iran-based users are prohibited from trading, maintains strict sanctions controls, and continues to cooperate with U.S. law enforcement.

IMPORTANT:
This is currently an investigation, not a proven violation. Binance has not been found guilty or charged in this new matter, and the separate $61M forfeiture case does not itself accuse Binance of wrongdoing.
