Marvell Just Got a Fresh AI Data Center Boost ⚡

Marvell and GlobalFoundries are expanding their chip partnership to increase production of semiconductors used for high-speed optical connections in AI data centers. The announcement sent Marvell shares up more than 6% and GlobalFoundries roughly 4% in Thursday trading.

The deal highlights a part of the AI boom that often gets less attention: connectivity. Training and running powerful AI models requires massive amounts of data to move between servers, and faster optical links are becoming increasingly important as data centers scale.

That creates another layer of demand beyond GPUs. As hyperscalers build larger AI clusters, the infrastructure connecting those computing systems needs to keep pace. More capacity for specialized connectivity chips could therefore become an increasingly important piece of the AI hardware supply chain.

For Marvell, the timing is especially interesting. The company has been positioning itself around custom silicon and data-center connectivity, making partnerships that expand manufacturing capacity potentially important as AI infrastructure spending continues.

The bigger question is whether this is just another AI headline or evidence that the infrastructure cycle is broadening. If demand keeps spreading from processors into networking and optical components, more chip companies could become part of the AI investment story. 👀
