The CLARITY Act just stalled in Congress, but Washington’s crypto battle is far from over.
Capitol Hill is taking on two major crypto bills today that could reshape digital asset regulation in the United States.
Here is what is at stake on the Senate floor right now:
First up is the Crypto Tax Bill, designed to fix everyday usability friction for American consumers.
Under current tax laws, spending micro-amounts of crypto or paying network gas fees creates a nightmare capital gains reporting requirement.
If passed, this bill establishes a tax exemption threshold for small transactions, treating crypto more like daily cash than stock sales.
Second is the high-stakes Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Bill, aimed at locking in massive U.S. sovereign holdings.
The U.S. government currently holds over 328,000 Bitcoins—worth more than $25 billion acquired mainly through law enforcement forfeitures.
This legislation would impose a mandatory 20-year lockup on those funds, legally banning federal agencies from dumping coins onto the open market.
Instead of selling off seized digital assets, the U.S. would effectively treat Bitcoin as a strategic national reserve asset alongside gold.
One bill clears the path for everyday consumer adoption, while the other turns the U.S. federal government into the ultimate long-term hodler.
Congressional floor debates are underway, and the vote counts are expected before the closing bell.
