China's Shanghai Composite fell for a fourth straight session on Tuesday, closing down 0.54% at 3,864.28, while the Shenzhen Component lost 0.72% and the ChiNext Index dropped 1.15%, according to ETNet.

Turnover in Shanghai and Shenzhen totaled RMB 1.6 trillion, the lowest this year and down RMB 16.5 billion from the previous session. Consumer-related sectors led declines, with tourism down 5.3%, while the semiconductor supply chain rose 1.6%.

Separately, the yuan's onshore spot rate closed at 6.7134 per dollar, its weakest since September 3, while the central parity rate was set at 6.7670, up for a fifth straight session and the strongest since February 3, 2023. ETNet also reported that China's industrial output growth accelerated in August, but retail sales growth slowed and fixed-asset investment fell more than expected.
